In 1985-1988 as the Overseas Rave scene was sweeping parts of Amsterdam, Ibiza, Manchester & Belgium; New York, Chicago & Detroit were pumping out Rhythm Tracks that would become indelible & forever change the Pulse of the Dance Music Industry world wide.

Heavily influenced by the Beats of the Disco Era of the late 70’s; Johnny Rocks had grown tired & bored of the music that began coming out in the early to mid 80’s; “There just wasn’t enough energy; no driving force or heavy bass line in the music that was being produced;” Moving a crowd had become more difficult for Johnny & many other DJ’s looking to elevate club kids to the next level on the dance floor.

Within’ the time frame of the mid to late ‘80’s came a sound which was developed by a group of DJ’s from Chicago, New York, Detroit & London that had also grown bored of the early ‘80s sound…This sound & musical creation was called HOUSE music…This sound was originally developed to fill the void left earlier by the music of the Disco era. Fat baselines & driving beats were back.

Johnny Rocks & DJ’s from around the world relished in the changes the music industry DJ / producers brought on…HOUSE was truly an addictive form of dance music.

Johnny along with other DJ’s soon started promoting small events involving this new form of underground dance music.

As time & technology brought about progressive changes to the HOUSE music sound, larger scale events arose purely out of the love for the music; Offsprings of the HOUSE music sound opened the floodgates; Techno, Trance, Tribal, Piano, Breakbeat, Trip-Hop, & Hip-House music exposed & offered all who longed for a life of underground clubbing a speaker to dance under…yes…the love for the music…the addicting feeling one got while listening & dancing to the sound of the Underground.

Since the late 80’s…Johnny Rocks has been fortunate to have guest spotted at many underground events (then called Raves) both in Florida & in New York.

Johnny has mixed & performed with some of the biggest names in the late night scene; Sasha, Kimball Collins, Micro, Chemical Brothers, Keoki and DJ Icey…. just to name a few.

Some of Johnny’s fondest memories were his frequent guest spots at “The Edge” in Orlando Florida; where Johnny says the development of the late night scene really took root…“Anybody who was anybody in the scene came to play there”…It was a trip…!! “The Edge in Orlando, spawned a lot of DJ / Producers; it’s where Johnny first met the extremely gifted & talented Sasha; “Sasha told me where to find the hard to get imports from overseas”…” I would always be in awe listening to his sets…at that time, he was a big influence for me”.

On WKTU 103.5 (The Beat Of New York),  Johnny Rocks mixes & has mixed along side of….major DJ / Producer & Remixer talent….Paul Okenfold, David Morales, Danny Tennaglia, Skribble & Jellybean….to name a few.

“I am truly fortunate to have the opportunity to play along side such name talent.  It’s all about your selection of music as well as mixing”; I’ve always been emphatic about programming, and so people in the industry notice”.

The Wednesday Late Night Underground Show on WSIA 88.9 fm Staten Island….Johnny Rocks co-produced & mixed on this weekly show with the famous air talent & mixin’ vixin’ diva, “RAVEN”…Weekly guest DJ’s perform.
